The idea

Transformation begins with an honest reading of what is already there.

A renovation is not a lesser version of a new home. It demands its own intelligence: deciding what deserves to remain, where intervention creates the greatest value, and how old and new can read as one intentional work.

Apel Design brings architectural, interior and construction knowledge together early, helping clients understand scope, approvals, existing conditions, cost pressure and design potential before committing to the wrong move.

Knowledge + experience

A complete renovation perspective.

From the first existing-condition study to the final room, each decision is connected.

Existing-condition study

Documentation, observed conditions, previous drawings, constraints and areas requiring specialist investigation.

Scope + feasibility

Priorities, likely approvals, structural implications, phasing, budget conversations and the value of each intervention.

Architectural transformation

Plan, circulation, openings, additions, façade, light and indoor-outdoor relationships.

Systems coordination

Structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy and specialty consultants aligned with the design.

Interiors + material

Kitchen, bath, millwork, lighting, finishes, furniture and art considered as part of the whole home.

Field continuity

Constructability review, selective demolition discoveries, decisions, documentation and quality coordination through construction.

The path

Renovate with fewer surprises and a stronger idea.

01

Discover

Document the home, clarify priorities and identify conditions that require early investigation.

02

Choose

Compare scope scenarios and focus investment where it most improves architecture, use and long-term value.

03

Coordinate

Develop design, consultants, permits, materials, pricing and construction information together.

04

Adapt

Respond to field discoveries without losing the larger architectural and interior direction.

Questions

Useful clarity before the first conversation.

Should we renovate, add or rebuild?

That decision should follow a focused feasibility study comparing existing conditions, approvals, desired program, structural implications, time and likely investment.

Can we remain in the house during construction?

Sometimes, but phasing, safety, utilities, access, dust and schedule should be evaluated with the contractor before assuming occupancy is practical.

Can Apel Design also handle interiors?

Yes. Architecture, kitchens, bathrooms, millwork, material, lighting, furniture and art can be developed as one connected design scope.
