The idea
A good set of drawings is essential. It is not the end of decision-making.
Construction brings design, engineering, labor, materials, access, weather, inspections, procurement and money into the same daily environment. Small unresolved interfaces can quickly become expensive or visible.
Apel Design keeps a direct line between architectural intent and field information, with construction responsibilities assigned through the appropriate project agreements and licensed entities.

Is Apel Design the licensed contractor?
Apel Design is the architectural and design company. Architecture is performed in association with Michael B. Maclaren, AIA. Licensed construction is provided by Creative New Dimension Inc, California B 1056632, in conjunction with Apel Design for Design-Build.
Can construction coordination begin during design?
Yes. That is often where it has the greatest value, because scope, constructability, cost, sequence and procurement can influence design before work reaches the field.
Is the service identical for every project?
No. The agreement should define the delivery structure, responsible entity, authority, reporting and exact management or coordination scope for the particular project.
One continuous thread
These do not happen in isolation.
Site engineering, approvals, documentation and building systems all constrain each other. On our projects they are resolved together, by one team, rather than handed between consultants.
