Sculptural figures integrated into a residential entry court by Apel Design

Sculpture design

Sculpture shaped for the place it inhabits.

Within Apel Design, sculpture extends the interior through form, material, shadow, movement, and touch.

Beyond the walls

A room can hold an object. A stronger room can give the object a reason to exist.

Sculpture is considered in relation to approach, sightline, scale, material, circulation, natural light, architectural lighting, and the life of the room around it.

Amit Apel’s practice as a designer, artist, sculptor, and maker gives the studio a direct way to move between an architectural idea and an object made for a particular place.

The room remains the whole.

Sculpture is offered as a focused extension of Interior Design. It can become a threshold, focal point, screen, wall element, freestanding piece, or custom detail, but its purpose is to deepen the complete spatial experience.

Capabilities

From first gesture to final placement.

Site-specific concept

Ideas developed from the architecture, interior, client, view, movement, and emotional character of the place.

Scale + placement

Proportion, sightlines, clearance, circulation, base conditions, shadow, daylight, and nighttime presence studied together.

Material + making

Material direction, samples, mockups, fabrication logic, finishes, attachments, durability, and specialist coordination.

Architectural integration

Openings, niches, walls, floors, landscape, lighting, structure, power, and installation requirements coordinated early.

Sculpture + making

Form, character, material, and the hand of the maker.

This selected body of work moves from intimate objects to sculptural studies and works in progress. Together, the images reveal both the finished piece and the physical process behind it.

How we work

One continuous design conversation.

1

Read the place

Understand the room, movement, views, light, materials, client, and the role the piece should play.

2

Shape the idea

Develop scale, form, orientation, material, color, and the relationship to architecture through studies and models.

3

Resolve the making

Coordinate fabrication, structure, attachments, finish, access, handling, and specialist input as required.

4

Place + light

Plan delivery, installation, alignment, lighting, and final adjustment as part of the completed room.

A strong fit for

Interiors that deserve something made for them.

  • Luxury residences with a strong architectural identity
  • Entry courts, stairs, galleries, and long sightlines
  • Clients seeking an original site-specific piece
  • Interiors where art, furniture, and architecture should speak together
  • Projects requiring fabrication and installation coordination

Questions

Useful answers before we begin.

Is sculpture separate from interior design?

It can be scoped as part of an interior or architectural engagement, or considered as a defined commission. The relationship and responsibilities are established for each project.

Can a piece be developed specifically for one room or site?

Yes. Site, scale, light, material, circulation, and installation conditions can become the starting point for an original work.

Does Apel Design coordinate fabrication and installation?

When included in the agreed scope, the studio can coordinate design intent, specialist fabrication, site requirements, lighting, delivery, and placement.

Create a piece that belongs to the architecture, and nowhere else.
