Project perspective
Sensu is a Malibu residence by Apel Design in dark timber and glass, sited to hold the light at either end of the day.
The design story
Sensu is built around orientation. The plan opens east and west so the house is worked by low sun twice a day, and the dark timber cladding absorbs that light instead of bouncing it back.
Glass runs floor to ceiling where the view earns it and closes down where privacy matters, so the elevations read as a deliberate rhythm rather than a uniform wall of glazing.
